Temaki
On Monday night, I visited Temaki for the first time. Located on Hope Street, the small Japanese restaurant is inspired by the street food of New York and has even brought the Sushi Burrito to Glasgow. I would have tried the Sushi burrito for blog’s sake, but I hate the taste of fish and seaweed and any sushi in general. I’ve tried to enjoy it many times seeing as it looks so pretty however, no, I hate it.
I absolutely love all other non-fishy, non-seaweedy
Japanese food, so was excited to try Temaki and see how it compares to my
all-time fav place, Ichiban.
We
ordered some mixed tempura as a side – sweet potato and king prawn. I’m already being a
hypocrite here because I do actually love prawns, my 1 of maybe 3 small fish
exceptions. I will say already that this was my favourite part of the full
meal. Amazing.
Now for the main meals, starting with a beef bento
box. I love bento boxes because they let you try a good variety of stuff. Along with the beef the box
contained with sticky rice, fried onions, chicken gyozas and a side of miso
soup. It was mostly delicious, mainly the gyozas which are part of the reason I
ordered a bento box anyway. However, not realising that miso soup is
also seaweed, I did not enjoy.
Main 2 was chicken teriyaki, which came with egg fried rice. The chicken was delicious and I can imagine the beef
version being just as good.
Temaki is great for easy, fast
food which is also pretty healthy. Of all Japanese restaurants Ichiban is still
my number one as they have a great selection of noodle dishes and Temaki doesn’t -
which is a big deal for me however rice lovers should not be affected. I
would definitely go back if in need of a quick but tasty bite and might even
try the sushi burrito, one day.
